Painters Partner with Local and National Organizations to Preserve the Santa Monica Mountains and Wildlife
Sunday March 25,2018
Join the Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore (AASMMS) in supporting the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), Western National Park Association, Mountains Restoration Trust (MRT) and National Park Service on Sunday March 25, 2018 from 10AM to 4:30PM at the King Gillette Ranch Visitor Center 26876 Mulholland Hwy, Calabasas, CA 91302. The group will present an art exhibit and sale featuring 20 local artists displaying representational landscape and seascape paintings of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The NWF will provide educational materials and information about the proposed Liberty Canyon Wildlife Crossing and #SaveLACougars. Representatives from the Mountains Restoration Trust (MRT), a land trust in the Santa Monica Mountains that works with the local community to protect the unique biodiversity of the Santa Monica Mountains, will also be in attendance providing information of their programs.
The Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains was founded over 20 years ago to paint and preserve the unique natural beauty of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA). The 156,000-acre recreation area stretches from Runyon and Franklin Canyons in Hollywood to Point Mugu State Park in Ventura County and contains over 500 miles of trails including the 67-mile long backbone trail that follows the crest of the coastal mountains from Will Rogers State Historic Park to Point Mugu State Park.
The AASMS provides information, environmental education and conservation through art and public service. The members of Allied Artists organize exhibitions of their paintings in order to raise money and increase public awareness of the endangered land that they depict in their paintings. They collaborate with local, state and national agencies to present several art shows a year in local and natural settings in and around the recreation area.
The Allied Artists group also sponsors free monthly paint-outs on the second Saturday of the month at various locations throughout the recreation area. The free paint outs provide a unique opportunity for any painter to enjoy a sense of camaraderie and are a great way to see the beauty of the natural environment. A painting demonstration and friendly critique are usually held at the paint-outs. The free paint-outs are from 9AM to 1PM and are open to any artist and any media and at any skill level. Contact the allied artists at http://allied-artists.com for more information about membership, paint outs and upcoming art shows.
