Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore is a 20-year-old organization of local fine artists that paint representational art of the Santa Monica Mountains and beaches topromote appreciation of our environment and to support conservation and maintenance Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and local parks. The 156,000-acre recreation area stretches from Runyon and Franklin Canyons in Hollywood to Point Mugu State Park in Ventura County and contains over 500 miles of trails including the 67-mile long backbone trail that follows the crest of the coastal mountains from Will Rogers State Historic Park to Point Mugu State Park.
The group of artists provides information, art, environmental education and an appreciation of the local mountains and seashore as a public service and donates a portion of art sales to conservation and environmental organizations. The members of Allied Artists collaborate with conservation and park agencies such as Will Rodgers State Historic Park, King Gillette Visitor Center, Western National Parks Association, Palisades Village Green, National Wildlife Federation, and Mountains Restoration Trust to hold exhibitions of their paintings several times a year to raise money and increase public awareness of the endangered land that they depict in their paintings.
The group also sponsors free monthly paint-outs on the second Saturday of the month. The free paint outs provide a unique opportunity for any painter to enjoy a sense of camaraderie with like-minded people and are a great way to see the beauty of the natural environment. A painting demonstration and friendly critique is usually held at the paint-outs. The free paint-outs are from 9AM to 1PM and are open to any artist and any media and at any skill level.
