GREG LONG AND DONOVAN FRANKENREITER TO COMPETE
FOR THE BILLABONG SURFAID CUP IN MALIBU

Top surfers are set to compete in the annual Billabong Surfaid Cup, a surfing competition to raise funds aimed at improving the health and well being of people living in remote iconic surf locations.

Kick off event on Friday Sept 11th at Duke’s Malibu for a night of food, drinks, and a presentation by
SurfAid Founder Dr. Dave Jenkins, and live music by Marc Oliver.

(September 3, 2015) Malibu, CA. – On Saturday September 12, 2015, SurfAid and Billabong will host the annual BILLABONG SURFAID CUP MALIBU at Surfrider Beach (23000 Pacific Coast Highway Malibu, CA 90265) from 10:30am – 5:00p.m. Notable names participating to support the cause include: professional surfer and big wave charger Greg Long, world-renowned musician Donavon Frankenreiter, plus local standout Frankie Harrer, will all be joining teams to compete in this year’s cup. Other pro surfers who are set to compete include Damien Hobgood, Matt McCabe, Mike McCabe, Allen Sarlo, Jo Jo Roper, Colton Sarlo, Jen Smith, Anthony Petruso, and Strider Wasilewski.

Twelve fundraising teams have entered the Billabong SurfAid Cup already raising nearly $55,000. Teams of four surfers aim to raise at least $5,000 per team for SurfAid and, in order of their fundraising total, each team picks a pro/legend surfer to join them.

SurfAid CEO, Andrew Judge is excited about the event and partnership, “We are absolutely stoked to have Billabong on board as our lead sponsor for the 2015 Billabong SurfAid Cup. Their support, along with the team’s fundraising efforts will save lives and improve the health of countless mothers and their families in remote villages in Indonesia. SurfAid works with communities around some of the world’s most iconic surf breaks — places where hardly anyone but surfers go.”

The 2015 Billabong SurfAid Cup Malibu will feature artwork from Maryland-based artist and long-time SurfAid supporter Matt Long. Matt is a surfer, outdoor enthusiast, renowned multimedia artist, and graphic designer. In addition, former competitive surfer and skateboarder turned commercial photographer, Steven Lippman is on board to be the event photographer. Lippman has donated his services and provided lifestyle portraits for every SurfAid Cup.

The mission of SurfAid, a non-profit humanitarian organization, is to improve the health, wellbeing and self-reliance of people living in isolated regions connected to us through surfing. SurfAid’s mother and child health programs involve education in nutrition, hygiene, healthy environments and disease prevention – including mosquito net distribution. SurfAid has built an award-winning capacity in emergency preparedness and has delivered five emergency response programs following major disasters, including the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the 2010 Mentawai tsunami.

Friday September 11 (6:00pm – 10:00pm)

Join SurfAid at Duke’s Malibu for a night of food, drinks, a presentation by SurfAid Founder Dr. Dave Jenkins, and live music by Marc Oliver. The event will also feature a silent auction and raffle. All proceeds will benefit SurfAid. Silent auction items include autographed guitar by Donovan Frankenreiter, and private surf-lessons from #1 Female ranked surfer Courtney Conlogue. SurfAid Cup team members receive complimentary admission.

Join us for an action packed day of tag-team surfing featuring surf legends in iconic Malibu. This is a very rare opportunity to surf an uncrowded Malibu line up with legends and pros. Two back-to-back heats will be followed by a final round.
