(Malibu, CA) – The Malibu Library Speaker Series continues an impactful 2016 season with a free screening ofthe powerful environmental documentary “Sonic Sea,” Wednesday, May 11, 7:00 PM at Malibu City Hall.

This moving film, narrated by actress Rachel McAdams and featuring Sting, Jean Michelle-Cousteau, and some of the world’s leading marine scientists, reveals the devastating impact of industrial and military ocean noise on whales and other sensitive marine life.

The film won the Environmental Award at the 2016 San Francisco International Film Festival, and the Jury Award and the John De Graaf Environmental Filmmaking Award at the 2016 Wild & Scenic Film Festival.

The film screening will be followed by a discussion and Q&A with the film makers and a reception with refreshments.

About the Series
The 2016 Malibu Library Speaker Series is a program of the County of Los Angeles Public Library, Malibu Branch, and the City of Malibu featuring experts, authors and notable figures discussing a wide range of subjects, such as the entertainment industry, literature, science, motivation, the arts, education, sports, travel, food, and the environment. The events are free and open to the public.

Past notable speakers in the Speaker Series include prolific comedy writer and director Tom Shadyac; author of the best-selling novel “Eat, Pray, Love” Elizabeth Gilbert; award-winning documentary filmmakers Rory Kennedy and Mark Bailey; performance painter David Garibaldi; and Olympic medal-winning swimmer and author Dara Torres.
