Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District tests have confirmed the presence of PCBs in Malibu
public schools which are directly linked to a variety of cancers and other serious diseases. PCBs
were commonly used in construction materials in schools until Congress banned them in 1976.
Many Malibu public school buildings were built before the ban and contain PCB-laden materials –
as do thousands of schools around the country, with up to 20 million students and teachers
exposed nationally.
For the past 2 ½ years, Malibu parents and teachers have wanted to know what the real risks are
to their health and if their current health issues are related to the PCBs in the school. Dr.
Carpenter has the answers. He will first give a presentation on PCBs and then answer questions
from the audience. This is a unique opportunity for the public to speak directly to the nation’s
leading expert on the PCBs found in Malibu schools.
Dr. Carpenter has more than 40 years of experience researching PCBs and their affects on PCBexposed
populations. He is a professor of environmental health sciences at the University at
Albany’s School of Public Health and Director of the University at Albany’s Institute for Health
and the Environment, a Collaborating Center of the World Health Organization.
He served as Director at the New York State Department of Health, served on the International
Agency for Cancer Research (IARC) regarding PCBs, and has advised the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, World Health Organization and the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human
Services. Dr. Carpenter received his medical degree from Harvard and has more than 370 peerreviewed
publications, 6 books and 50 reviews and book chapters to his credit.
Space is limited so please RSVP to info@americaunites.com. Please provide names of all
attendees: first name, last name and phone number. Students are encouraged to attend.
Please tell the Pepperdine guard at the gate you are attending the Dr. Carpenter Talk. They will
direct you to the Law School parking lot. Doors open at 6:45; event starts promptly at 7pm
