Local painter, Briggs Whiteford, is saying her final goodbyes after five short, yet productive years of living and creating art in Malibu. Moving here from the middle of busy New York City to such a tranquil place like Malibu has had a tremendous effect on Briggs’ artwork, but she believes it is time to move on.
Living in Malibu has added “ another layer” to her artwork and she “has evolved so much” in her time here. What she found in Malibu was a sense of isolation and solitude, something that she could not find in the middle of New York City. Briggs believes that “the life of an artist includes both time spent in solitude balanced with time with other people, sharing and talking about art, and generating ideas about art and here in Malibu [she has] had 5 years in solitude…after 5 years of that it is time to move on and share ideas with other artists.”
Before she bids her final farewell on June 1st back to the east coast, Briggs is hosting her final art shows in her Malibu studio located at Cosentino’s Nursery (25019 Pacific Coast Highway).
This Thursday, April 21st from 5pm-9pm her studio will feature artwork from French Artist Jill Steenhuis and her son, Sergio Ruffato from 5-9pm. They’re artwork is what is on display in the video. The evening will include great art, wine and sunset viewing!
On Friday and Saturday, the 22nd and 23rd from 11am-1pm Jill Steenhuis will be giving an inspirational talk on art, spirit, and business accompanied with mimosas and coffee!
On May 14th from 5pm-9pm Briggs will be hosting another artist, Rana Wilson, from 5-9pm.
From now until June 1st Briggs will be hosting private shows of her own art by appointment only. To make an appointment call her at (914) 841-7052 or email at mbwhiteford@gmail.com.
