Malibu High graduate Henry Stern is back at it again with Malibu firsts. Back in the year 2000, Henry was the first Malibu High Student ever to be accepted to Harvard University. Now he aims to be the first Malibu High graduate to be elected to the California State Senate.
The Harvard and UC Berkeley Law graduate is running for the seat to represent the 27th district of California, looking to replace the retiring state senator, Fran Pavley. Although raised in Malibu, Henry currently resides in Canoga Park.
All Things Malibu is proud to endorse and support Stern for California State Senate. Henry has shown that he is fighting the good fight with the best interests in mind for not just the 27th district, but for all of California. We believe his efforts for the environment, education, community safety, and job creation are exactly what is needed in California.

Henry, a sixth generation Californian, currently works as the senior policy adviser to Pavley. He has helped her achieve some of the most crucial legislative victories in recent California history including measures to balance budgets, reduce negative climate change effects, manage the California water crisis, address education issues, ensure community safety, and stop unregulated fracking. Stern is also spearheading efforts to clean up the highly publicized Porter Ranch Gas Leak.
Aside from his experience as senior policy advisor to Pavley, Henry’s background includes service as counsel to Congressman Henry Waxman on the House Energy & Commerce Committee, assisted in clean energy projects, advocated for juvenile justice, and founded a tech incubator. Currently, Henry also teaches law at UCLA, volunteers at the Boys & Girls Club, and proudly maintains his memberships to the Jewish Foundation and the Truman National Security Project. Furthermore, in December of 2014 Henry was appointed as Malibu's representative to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Advisory Committee in a unanimous vote by the City Council.
As a State Senator for the 27th district, Henry will be representing areas including Simi Valley, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Calabasas, West Hills, a portion of Santa Clarita, a portion of the greater Santa Monica area, the western San Fernando Valley along the Highway 101 and 118 corridors, and of course, Malibu.

When elected to State Senate, Henry plans to tackle many of the same issues that he helped Pavley address in her own time as senator. Henry hopes to localize water supplies, invest in teacher recruitment and other educational opportunities, protect taxpayers from unnecessary burdens, and harness California creativity to improve job growth.
Throughout his campaign, Henry has racked up some seriously impressive and diverse endorsements from prominent public figures and groups. Notable endorsements from current and past State Senators include Fran Pavley, Ben Allen, Mark Leno, Loni Hancock, Lois Wolk, Alan Sieroty, and Tom Hayden. Notable groups that have given their endorsements include Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California State Council, Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, California League of Conservation Voters, Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley, Malibu Democratic Club, and Equality California.
The primary election will be held on June 7, 2016 and the general election will be held on November 8th 2016. Make sure to come out and vote for Henry ;).
